Polar Bear Club // Parked In The Parking Lot Of Your Heart
It's New Year's Eve and we are reigning it in with a little PBC
Sunday, December 30, 2012
The Dirty Nil // Fuckin' Up Young
In case you have never seen a music video that takes place in a house party...
Heart In Hand // Life Goes On
Official music video from across the pond.
Trapped Under Ice // Pleased To Meet You
One of those songs that doesn't need an introduction.
Saturday, December 29, 2012
The Notwist // Consequence
Off the album, Neon Golden.
This song is so mesmerizing.
Leave me paralyzed, love. Leave me hypnotized, love.
It's so dreamy.
Cancer Bats // Old Blood
This music video is exactly like most music videos you've seen.
Watch it anyways.

Teenage Kicks // I Get What You Give
I found these guys through Single Mothers.
They tweeted that they were playing a show with these guys and I knew I had to check them out.
AND they're good live, which is always the big plus.

Suburban Scum // Wall Of Stone
100th post!
Sending this one out to all the would-be broken hearts who just didn't give a shit in 2012.
CAVE BEAR NATION.

Kuro no Keiyakusha // Scatcat
Did I get this song from an anime? yes.
Does that make it not a worthy song? no.
This song was done for the OST of an anime called Darker Than Black
Composed by Yoko Kanno and sung by Mei Yamane
I base my posts on if it's a song that I would/have listened to on repeat,
and this song meets that qualification.
The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower // Drake The Fake
this band has since broken up, but they're still a good find. The stuff that they have put out is pretty good, but not strong enough to give you that "OMG I'm Obsessed" feeling that people like myself get with other bands.
Still worth a listen.

Not Ok // Untitled
Here is a band from Michigan. Keep an eye on these kids, because I'm hoping to see more from them in the next year.
The fact that their (very few) youtube videos all have less that 30 views is beyond me.
This is what Screamo is. Screamo isn't every shitty Hot Topic band that people shove under the label.
Of course this isn't pure Screamo and the Hardcore influence is pretty strong, some might even characterize them as Noisy Hardcore. But who gives a shit about labels anyways?
Braid // Please Drive Faster
and it's your number
she goes please drive faster
spoken like a champion
oh no, disaster
The Specials // Ghost Town
This is my childhood
The Specials were the background music for my childhood.
My Dad was deployed a lot, but whenever he was home we would put on The Specials and make up dances to every song. We'd memorize the dances, even though we weren't performing for an audience.
I remember sitting in the car, driving to the beach, my feet not touching the ground, and listening to The Specials on my little CD player.
Needless to say, this group has a special place in my heart.
I really don't listen to a lot of other 2-tone/Ska bands because no one is comparable to The Specials. The Specials started 2-tone...so how could anyone do it better than them.
If you have the time, listen to a few songs by The Specials. Won't regret it.
Tomihira // Mr. Disco
Everyone loves a cover. That doesn't mean that all covers are good.
I'm more of a fan of Tomihira's original music, but when a band can do a song justice then I have to give it props.
I'm not a huge New Order fan, but I really dig this cover. It's 'chill out' music.

Basement // Earl Grey
For me, this has always been the band that all my friends like and all say that I would like, but then my stubborn lazy ass is like...I'll check them out later.
Now they're one of the many bands where I am kicking myself because...Why didn't I listen to them sooner. Climbing my internal favorite bands ranking.
Best Coast // I Want To
In honor of her voice sounding just as good live as it does on the album.
Fireworks // X's On Trees
Everything that I currently listen to says that I shouldn't like this song,
but my inner angsty misdirected eight grader says YES.
I want to dance to this song and sing in the shower.
Essentially, this is a guilty pleasure song for me.
...oh yeah, and the album is Gospel.
Message To Bears // Wake Me
This song. This video. All of it, I want to put it in my pocket cause it's so damn great.
Also..anything with Bear in the title. You know how Cave Bear is about those Bears.
Haruka Nakamura // Faraway
Christmas has me in this Jazzy ass ambient mood. I'm sorry to all my heavy music lovers.
Death Grips // Beware
Off the album Exmilitary. I don't normally post this kind of music on my blog, but I've been really digging Death Grips lately and I thought he deserved a nod.
I can appreciate any music that is lyrically sound like this.
This is where more rap should be.

Tigers Jaw // Plane Vs Tank Vs Submarine
If you like my blog...you (hopefully) like Tigers Jaw.
If you like Tigers Jaw..You like the second track off of their 2009 album which shares a name with the band.
As for me, this is the song in my headphones when I'm walking around campus with an angsty/angry look in my eyes, and everyone is like "What's wrong with that girl..why is she so angry?" and I'm just all like, "Shove off, I'm actually REALLY happy because I'm listening to this great band."
Yea.
Mockingbird, Wish Me Luck // Orphans of A Storm
Weee, What better to listen to while wrapping Christmas presents!
Joan of Arc // A Picture Postcard
Everyone loves a cover.
Here is Joan of Arc covering The Promise Ring
Glocca Morra // Deep Pocket
This is the last track off of the EP, "An Obscure Moon, Lighting An Obscure World
I found this in your coat.
I really wish I had more bands like these guys on my playlists. I have no other way of describing this music than..Earthy and a lot of Emotion. Which is exactly what music should be.

Dowsing // Amateur Cartography
This music video makes me want to be friends with Dowsing. Like so badly.
The Menzingers // Mea Culpa Cabana, My Friend Chris
So, this is two songs. around 1:20, My Friend Chris starts playing, which is the real reason I am posting this.
Maybe Kafka was a writer, but I've been living like my name was Samson
Wednesday, December 19, 2012
The Sea and Cake // Inn Keeping
I command all of my friend's bands to try and top this song.
Look Mexico // I Like Being a Millionaire. You Will Too, Believe Me.
From their album, This is Animal Music.
Released in 2007.
All I got to say is that I wish I listened to this kind of music in 2007.
Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate) // Everything Is Connected and Everything Matters (A Temporary Solution)
when you came back to michigan, you would walk with words you did not speak and dress yourself with an air we couldn't reach.
so when you go back to maine, i hope that you stay (where you cornered truth and beauty). and each borrowed refrain you sing, you sing, you sing will sound the same to the lonely, lonely sea.
Fall Of Efrafa // Pity The Weak
Off the album, OWSLA.
What's better than a band whose lyrics are based off of Watership Down.
If you are unfamiliar with the novel Watership Down, it is an anthropomorphic tale about a group of rabbits who escape the destruction of their burrow and seek refuge and a new home.
This isn't your typical Winnie the Pooh -esque animal tale and seems to catch you up just as much as novels like Mossflower and other Redwall novels.
This band definitely knows how to pay tribute to the novel and highlights on the grim aspects of the book. In other words, from the sound of the music, you wouldn't know that it's about rabbits.

El Ten Eleven // My Only Swerving
That fantastic feeling when you spend a good 30 minutes racking your brain for a song that you vaguely remember hearing a few days ago, and that only in hindsight have realized the greatness of said song.
Well I found it!
and What a glorious feeling it is!
Tigers Jaw // Thank You, Noah Lowry
I've been putting so much into my poetry lately that I feel like I have no energy to write about the music that I am posting. So Sorry for the fact that I am posting purely music, but It's good music so who fucking cares?
This Town Needs Guns // Adventure, Stamina, & Anger
The guitar plucking in this...Key.
Merchant Ships // Sleep Patterns
I still cannot listen to this song without crying by the end of it.
If you like La Dispute's Here, Hear albums, then you'll enjoy this.

Aficionado // Stir Like Hell
This is what it sounds like when I am done with school for a month and I go on a posting spree after spending two weeks too busy to post
AHHHHHH!!!!!!
Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate) // With Your Greatest Fears Realized, You Will Never Be Comforted
This feeels very fitting to the week in review.
Everything is in the title.
Hop Along // No Good Al Joad
Philadelphia is always pumping out good bands.
I don't think I would have gotten through finals with this band.
I can't think of anyone to compare them to..so if you can think of someone other than Metric, let me know.
She really is my ideal vocalist, if i had those lungs then I'd be long gone.
You are my favorite because you're a long shot, You are my enemy because you forgot

Pale White Moon // The Wolf Peach
Most of us are familiar with the track, Heirloom.
This one is a little different, but just as haunting.
Wednesday, November 28, 2012
Frontier Ruckus // The Latter Days
From their 2008 album, 'The Orion Songbook'
Anatomy to me is a homesick stomach and a broken heart
The National // Cherry Tree
I always hear this band, love them, forget about them, and then am reminded of them when another one of their great songs appear in a movie.
I found this one at the credits of If A Tree Falls
It's easy to shove off a band that is constantly used in films, but I don't think that should discredit the fact that these guys are constantly churning out good music.

The Murder City Devils // Rum to Whiskey
I'd recommend this to anyone who leans towards the more traditional side of punk rock.
Very 90's era vibe going with this song.
"Bang Bang, He put her down."
The Old 97's // Question
Y'all know it.
Y'all love it.
Dat Love Song jont.
I like to pretend that this song is actually about someone asking me to go get ice cream and I'm just like I LOVE ICE CREAM.

this is for you.
Bear vs Shark // Catamaran
A little obsessed with this song recently.
shown to me by a friend...as has been most of my finds this past week.
Honestly, have this song on replay.
DC9: Title Fight, Pianos Become The Teeth, Single Mothers, w/ In Between
Weeeeeeeeeeee!!
Good music and new friends! No better way to kick off Thanksgiving break.
This show was awesome. I normally end up at local band shows, so it was cool to see groups that I listen to on a daily basis.
First up was a Baltimore group called In Between. I don't know much about them other than that they were really great. Straight up Punk Rock. I can't even give you a video of some their music...they are pretty fresh, but I would keep an eye out for them because they killed it.
Single Mothers...WHAT CAN I SAY! too good. The lead vocalist came on sippin' some Yuengling and missing a front tooth. Not giving a shit. I was surprised that more people in the crowd did not know them. I think it was maybe three people singing along. Needless to say, if they didn't know them before then they know them now. Single Mothers is from Ontario. Thank you, Canada.
Pianos Become The Teeth. meowww. They're from the local area, being from Baltimore. A lot heavier in person than on recording. A lot of energy. Always good to have some ambient hardcore/Screamo OG. "Long hair, Did not Care"
Title Fight was also a lot heavier in person. The crowd got pretty annoying...who tries to mosh to Head in the Ceiling Fan? I was trying to have a very touching moment with one of my favorite songs and this asshole kid is flinging his shit around. just stop man. Anyways. Title Fight killed it which i feel can go unsaid.
Despite having someone else's blood on my Over&Out shirt...this show was great. Unbelievably great.

Dan Mangan // The Indie Queens Are Waiting
Just a cute little indie song for those of us who have an impossible crush.
It's been a long time since I've had a crush on someone so I'm a bit of mess...
Anyways...
Here is the official music video
Dear and The Headlights // Daysleeper
Coming to us from Tempe/Chandler, Arizona.
Conveniently my favorite place in the world.

Gogol Bordello // Start Wearing Purple
Gogol Bordellloooo!!!
most of you probably know Eugene Hutz...even if you don't know Eugene Hutz
Despite being a musician, you know him from the movie screen.
Everything from his unfamiliar shaven face playing an American Culture Obsessed Ukrainian Tour guide in Everything is Illuminated to having the character, Eugene(played by Shea Whigham), from Wristcutters: A Love Story based off of the real Eugene Hutz. The character Eugene, is a failed Russian rockstar, and in the movie when he puts his cassette tape in the car..Gogol Bordello plays!
Most people that love Gogol Bordello found him through these two movies where his music was featured.
Known for that sasstache and his attire, Eugene Hutz has become an icon of recent years.
This song, also, was my ringtone for an annoyingly long period of time.
Love this boy!

Now, Now // Wolf
This is a lot different from what I have been posting, but I still consider this share worthy music.
They are somewhere between Metric and more recent songs from Tegan and Sara
You can't not like a dreamy female lead on vocals, ya just can't
Monday, November 12, 2012
Kid Dynamite // S.O.S
If you're fixin' for some OG punk
a classic.
Listener // Wooden Heart
"We're all born to broken people on their most honest day of living."
This is a touching poem from Listener...
..if you need some inspiration then here has it.
Jawbreaker // Imaginary War
Double Trouble. Back to Back.
doesn't matter when the music is good, huh?
alt-J // Breezeblocks
Dante just sent me this music video as a way of cheering me up...
it's a badass song but this video does not necessarily make me feel very secure about my romantic future (I don't have one...and if i did then they would kill me)
I don't always understand her reasoning, but I do understand her taste in music
Here is a very dreamy song from alt-J
Sunday, November 11, 2012
Pianos Become The Teeth // Houses We Die In
Just remembered how great this song is...
Single Mothers // Christian Girls
As a christian girl...I don't know how I feel right now
but I'm hoping to see these boys with Title Fight and PBTT next week
HOPEFULLY
The Menzingers // Straight to Hell
You'll never know what gems you find while clicking through youtube videos...
Aficionado // Everything Was Right
I drunkenly told this kid that I wanted to be his friend.
Rather than being weirded out.. he asked me if I liked Aficionado
Who I didn't know before now.
So not only is this kid trill for not being creeped out by me but he also knows good music and has just given me a band that I can already tell is going to be on that Dear and The Headlights level where I listen to them nonstop for two weeks and then they just join my repertoire of music.
Thanks Kid, Stay Classy
Blind Pilot // Poor Boy
Always Beautiful.
Off their album, '3 rounds and a sound'
Blind Pilot is a timeless band...they're like a sweater.
We Were Promised Jetpacks // It's Thunder and It's Lightning
Most of us are familiar with their song 'Quiet Little Voices'
but for me this is by far my favorite song from them.
as a former Scotland resident, I can't help but feel a little pride for Scottish bands, keep up the awesome work boys but DAMN you are making me miss Dundee!
Dear and the Headlights // Paper Bag
When I first heard this band...
I listened to them non-stop for a bit over a week
and I have no regrets..That was a really good week for me
"I'm like a Paper Bag but the bottom is wet."
Listen to more music from these kids, you won't regret it.
Japandroids // Wet Hair
This song came on my friend's Pandora station the other day
on our way to the Capital Punishment concert...
Immediately in love with these chaps.

Sunny Day Real Estate // Tearing In My Heart
Off 'The Rising Tide'
OG Emo Kids
Capital Punishment: Fang Island and Eternal Summers w/ Sun Club
Review:
WVAU(American University Radio) has a free concert series going at the moment called Capital Punishment. Which all in all, has not been well advertised. If it had not been for a friend bringing me along at the last minute, I would never have known that this concert had even happened...
Anyways...Time to Review deez bitches
The first band up was a band called SUN CLUB. I think they said that they were from Annapolis? If so...Kudos. These guys were my favorite of the night, despite being the lesser known band. They brought energy, which is the whole reason that we go to concerts and don't just sit at home listening to perfectly recorded versions of songs. We go for the energy that the band brings to the table and these boys did a great job reminding me of that tonight
Then came Eternal Summers. I feel bad to say it but they were a little bit of a let down for me. The energy was there, but most of their songs sounded the same. They didn't have that original sound that makes you want to buy someones entire album instead of downloading the 'one song with catchy chorus'.
Don't let my opinion scare you away. They are good.
Then came the whirlwind of energy that was Fang Island. I couldn't tell who was more pumped though...the crowd or the band. They were kickass. I will say though, the longer I think about them...the stranger I think they are...which I think they would love. Which is kind of why I am digging them...I think they would love to be called weird.
Totes.
To Conclude..
I wish I had known about this show in advance so I could prepare for this post but, as is Life!
I can't wait to hear more from Sun Club in the future! My big Surprise!
La Dispute // The Castle Builders
"We are only the extent to which we love"
Lydia // One More Day
Doin' Big Thangs.
If you can't tell...
I am bored on a Friday night.
So instead of worthwhile posts...
I'm just posting good music..hope y'all don't mind
Treepeople // Cartoon Brew

Big Sanchez, Here We Go
Hey,
As you see, This blog is new.
I just want to briefly lay out what I want this blog to be about:
1. While I am still establishing a following, I will mostly write short bits about new bands that I discover.
2. I will also just post good music, whether it is well known or not.
3. My final goal for this blog is to be reviewing shows in the DMV.
As I go down this path of musical discovery, I want to ask for constant feedbacks and recommendations.
Thanks!
Here is one of my all time favorites
Brand New- I Will Play My Game Beneath The Spin Light
Daitro // Part 1
Bonjour!
Three years ago, Daitro released the album "Y". They called it quits shortly after the release of this album. They are a french skramz band and are one of the more well known hardcore European bands. They have a melodic style and the emotion that they bring forward in their music make them enjoyable for non-french speakers.
I can't currently decide which I find more enjoyable, the music, or the arguments of people trying to compare Daitro to Miss May I.....when the two have nothing in common...
Anyways, I am new to Daitro and I definitely look forward to sharing more from them in the near future.
A quick shout out:
I discovered Daitro recently from 'Mellow Hype' an on-campus radio station from American University. Be sure to check it out.

Code Orange Kids // Cycles
Heavy Shit
Bet you couldn't guess that one of the vocalists is a girl.
I had the wonderful opportunity to see these kids play in DC @ Casa Fiesta last month, and I'll admit that I had not heard of them before this time. Now that I know them I won't soon be forgetting them.
This isn't one of those bands who walk into the venue like a bunch of punks looking to break shit. They wandered in as a bunch of unassuming teenagers.
I heard that the vocalist was a girl, but I was expecting a gauged, tatted up, helian to walk up. Instead it was a regular girl next door with dirty vans and a polo on.
I was a little hesitant and wasn't sure what I was supposed to expect. then they played...
and FUCK that girl can fucking go.
...and just as they came in...after their set was over they were back to being these seemingly normal teenagers (despite from being sweaty and the three boys being in their skivvies)
Look out for the Code Orange Kids in the coming years, they aren't going anywhere and they will continue to wreck shit in the coming years.
Check out their Newest Album. Love is Love // Return to Dust
